What is Body Stress?

pain relief
Our bodies are designed to deal with stress, and adapt positively. However, if we become overloaded with stress, this becomes stored in our muscles as physical tension, or Body Stress. This puts pressure on nerves, and blocks communication between our brains and nervous system, leading to stiffness, pain, numbness, tingling cramps, headaches, migraines, anxiety and low energy levels.

Body Stress, or tension, is what occurs when stress becomes locked into our bodies as a physical presence. Stress can become locked in, in three different ways.

Physical or Mechanical Stress
An accident, physical trauma, or repetitive action can cause body stress.

Emotional or Mental Stress
Everyday stresses, overwork, bereavement, or life changing events, can cause stress to become locked in.

Chemical Stress
Airborne pollutants, chemicals in cosmetics or cleaning products, food additives & preservatives, are all causes of body stress.

What happens in a Body Stress Release session?

Rob will begin by taking a thorough case history, and then perform a series of gentle muscle tests, to find the precise location of stored tension, before applying a gentle pressure that will encourage the body to release the stress, and begin self healing. Clients remain fully clothed. At the end of the session, Rob will explain his findings, give advice on posture and explain some simple self help techniques. Body Stress Release is a process, and you will need to book an initial three appointments over two weeks. This will allow you to gain the maximum benefit of BSR, and allow Rob to measure fully the effects, and changes to your body as the healing process begins. The technique takes place with the client fully clothed, so is non invasive.

How did BSR begin?

Body Stress Release was started in 1986, by two South African Chiropracters, Gail & Ewald Meggersee. They became increasingly dissatisfied with Chiropracticy, and believed it was not the most effective way to treat their clients. Through their research, they developed a new, unique technique that bought about dramatic improvements for their clients. They began to teach this technique, leading to the establishment of The Body Stress Release Academy in South Africa.

Body Stress Release is now practiced around the world, and in 2014, The European Body Stress Release Academy began in Dorchester. There are now over 30 practitioners in the UK, and word is spreading fast.

Rob worked for 20 years as freelance photographer. He began using BSR to help deal with neck and shoulder tension, and back ache caused by carrying heavy equipment.

'I found the technique so effective, that when I decided to change my career, it seemed the natural thing for me to do. Studying at The European BSR Academy was a brilliant experience, and I am constantly amazed at the effectiveness of the technique, and the relief it brings to my clients.'

Rob qualified from the first Body Stress Release Academy to be run in Europe, and now practices in Hove, East Sussex.
